3rd International Clarinet Competition, Lisbon, Portugal with winners announced

 

Lisbon, Portugal

 

 

                It is the 3. International Lisbon clarinet competition. After listening to 65 recordings of Stravinsky and Poulenc the jury: Michel Arrignon France, Nuno Silva Portugal, Dean Newcombe, Australia, Antonio Tinelli Italy and Radovan Cavallin Spain-Croatia have selected 27 candidates from Usa, Spain, Mexico, Russia, Litvania, China, Portugal, Korea, France, Italy, Slovenia, Belgium and Poland to get thought to the semifinal. After the performance of all 27 candidates jury had decided to pass to the final 6 players from Portugal, Spain, Italy and France. The level was really high and it was difficult for the jury to decide the winners listening to their excellent performances of Francaix, Copland and Mozart Clarinet Concertos in the final. After counting all the votes 3 winners were announced:

 

 1. Prize Matteo Mastromarino Italy

 

 2. Prize Carlos Ferreira Portugal

 

3. Prize Vitor Trindade Portugal

 

             The winners have received their financial prizes as well as Clarinets from Selmer, Buffet Crampon and D&B. All 3 winners have performed at the final concert held as well as the Competition in Palacio Foz in Lisboa performing Mozart cl.concerto, Bucchi: Concerto and Donatoni: Concerto

Artist Clarinetist in Residence Prof. Dr. Friedrich Pfatschbacher, founder and chief conductor of the Austrian Clarinet Choir (Austrian Clarinet Society) at the University of Florida (Gainesville) - WKA Performing Organization Chairman Mitchell Estrin, Host

                Dr . Friedrich Pfatschbacher, director of the Austrian Clarinet Society, was a guest artist at the University of Florida March 29-April 1, 2105. He performed as guest conductor of the University of Florida Clarinet Ensemble and presented a lecture on the history and development of the clarinet choir. Dr. Pfatschbacher is the author of the book “The Clarinet Choir” and professor of music at the Mautern Music School in Austria. He was invited by UF Professor of Clarinet, Mitchell Estrin. 

 

               Clarinetist Dr. Friedrich Pfatschbacher is director of music and teacher for clarinet at the Mautern Music School. He has performed regularly as a soloist and in chamber ensembles, and has previously taught at the academic music high school in Admont in Styria.He was conductor of the Wind and Big Band Mautern over a number of years. Clarinet soloist with the Wind Band Donawitz/Styria since 2003.

Pfatschbacher studied clarinet under Professor Alfred Rosé (Vienna Symphony Orchestra) at the Graz College of Music. Postgraduate Studies (1999-2004) "Musicology" with Univ. Profs. Drs. Wolfgang Suppan and Peter Revers at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. Graduation Doctor of Philosophy. Author of the book "The clarinet choir" (Der Klarinettenchor), published 2005.

Pfatschbacher is also founder and director of the Clarinet Ensemble Woodwind (2001-2014) and current newly founded Austrian Clarinets 2014 with concert tours in China, North-Africa, and different countries in Europe. Since 2006, he is the Founder and President of the Austrian Clarinet Society, and since 2007, is the Chief Conductor of the Austrian Clarinet Choir (2013 concerts in Assisi/Italy and 2015 in Madrid/Spain at the Clarinetfest contribute to the I.C.A. and is the national chairperson for the I.C.A. (International Clarinet Association) since 2012.

In 2013, Pfatschbacher was appointed professor from the President of Austria.

Mezzo-Soprano, Soloist Professor Birgit Pfatschbacher studied piano, accordeon, guitar and recorder at various music schools in Carinthia. She studied vocals, choir director and voice training at the Carinthian State Conservatory Klagenfurt and studied at the University College of Teacher Education / Viktor-Frankl-Hochschule.

She was choir master in excess of 20 years from ensembles and large choirs in the region of St. Veit/Carinthia and has serveral recordings with the mixed double quartet "Metnitz" (Carinthia) and with many other choirs in the district of St. Veit. She also conducts children choirs and music ensembles in the field of elementary schools and performed many children musicals.

Pfatschbacher has many performances as vocal soloist in choirs or with the Austrian clarinet choir at home and abroad. Furthermore, she is moderator from concerts (Austrian clarinet Choir, Austrian Clarinets...), vernissages and readings.
