Boston Woodwind Society Harold Wright Merit Competition

           We are pleased to announce the following Merit Award Competitions:

          The Boston Woodwind Society Merit Award Competitions are open to instrumentalists who have reached their 18th birthday, but not their 30th birthday, by the competition date. The participants must prepare a complete piece (including all movements if a multi-movement piece is chosen), at least 10 minutes in length. The auditions must be performed with piano accompaniment, and participants are required to provide his/her own accompanist.

 

         There is a $25 registration fee, and registrations are now being accepted via the Awards page on our website.

                             Ein Fest in A-Dur: Eine Tonart der Freude ist es, in der Ludwig van Beethoven seine Siebte Sinfonie komponierte, und auch Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart hatte für sein Klarinettenkonzert diese Tonart gewählt. Dabei ist das Konzert, das Mozart kurz vor seinem Tod 1791 schrieb, alles andere als ein unbeschwertes Stück: Eine leichte Melancholie liegt über allen drei Sätzen, in denen Mozart dennoch alle Farben und Stimmungen der Klarinette auf brillante Weise zum Klingen bringt. Die zwanzig Jahre später entstandene Siebte Sinfonie von Ludwig van Beethoven ist ein ganz anderes Werk: In kaum einem anderen seiner Werke entwickelt Beethoven so eine Fantasie in der rhythmischen Gestaltung. Die überschäumende Lebendigkeit dieser Sinfonie und ihr rhythmischer Elan sind der Grund, warum Richard Wagner das Werk eine „Apotheose des Tanzes“ genannt hat. Bei „Nur im Rathaus“ spielen die Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg und Marcus Bosch die Sinfonie nicht in der üblichen großen Besetzung, sondern in der kleinen Besetzung, in der Beethovens Werke zu ihrer Entstehungszeit oft in den Palais des Wiener Adels erklungen sind – mit spannenden neuen Hörerlebnissen in Sachen Beethoven.
