As a soloist, Julia Heinen has performed hundreds of recitals throughout the
United States and had the distinct pleasure of premiering several works
written specifically for her. In February of 2003, she performed a recital

In addition to Dr. Heinen’s solo performances she is often heard as a
chamber musician performing most notably with the Tapestry Ensemble, a
quartet of oboe, clarinet, cello and piano and the TEMPO New Music Ensemble.
She is also an accomplished ensemble player having served as principal
clarinetist with the American Wind Symphony, a professional wind ensemble
which tours the United States and Europe. As an orchestral player, she has
served as principal clarinetist with the Augusta, Dubuque, Greenville,
LaCrosse, Rochester and Valdosta Symphony Orchestras and was featured
several times as a concerto soloist with those ensembles. In addition, her
orchestral performances also include several concerts with the Minnesota
Orchestra.

throughout the United States. Originally from Minnesota, she currently lives
in Los Angeles, where she serves as professor of music at California State

In the spring of 2015, in
the organization of Glazba na kvadrat d.o.o. and cooperation with
Music School Jan Vlašimsky, the Town of Virovitica will host a
one-of-a-kind professional development model intended for music
school and academy students of clarinet from Europe. The seminar
program has been carefully planned and adapted to suit the needs of
beginners, as well as of more advanced attendees who have already
chosen to pursue their career in music.
The project is intended
not only to offer a possibility of the official professional
development of its attendees, but it has been given a new dimension
through bringing musicians closer together, by exchanging experience
between music school students and academy students from all over
Europe.
The individually-based
music workshops will last for 4 days. The emphasis will be on
individual approach and chamber music. The highlight of the seminar
will be a competition and concert performed by tutors and attendees.
Course is designed for
clarinetists of all ages who want to improve the techniques of
playing, and the skill of the occurrence and competitions. During
the four days we will try, in addition to work on the basic
techniques of breathing, position your mouth and chest techniques,
instruct students in the art of performing and teach them how to
cope with the psychological challenges that carry the performances
and competitions. Besides individual participants will continue to
work in chamber ensembles. At the end of the lessons learned will be
able to show the final concert, and those who so desire will be able
to compete and win valuable prizes.
Competition
The competition is
open exclusively to seminar attendees for their improvement.
The competitors will compete in three categories:
1st category: primary school attendants
2nd category: high school attendants
3rd category: music academy undergraduates and graduates
Competitors in each category will perform one or more pieces of the
overall length of up to 10 min. Playing buy heart is not obligatory
and the piano will be in charge of official accompanist.
The jury will be composed of professors lecturers, who will hand
awards to the best in its category.

Hugh Wood, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, Jonathan Lloyd, Andrei
Eshpai, Yuri Kasparov, Alan Ridout, Peter Fribbins, Emily
Howard, Matilda Brown and Anthony Powers. In 2005, he gave the
first BBC broadcast of Giya Kancheli's haunting work Midday
Prayers in the presence of the composer. In 2007 he premičred a

and first UK performance of Nico Muhly's It goes without saying.
In 2010 he premiered a new Clarinet Concerto commissioned by the
RLPO from the Catalan composer Benet Casablancas subtitled Dove
of Peace after the iconic Picasso drawing. His performance of
this piece can be viewed on youtube. 2012 saw the premičre of a
new Clarinet Quintet by Emily Howard with the Danel Quartet. and
most recently he premičred a new Clarinet Sonata by Anthony
Powers. Over the years he has played at four Clarinet Fests of
the International Clarinet Association in Texas, Stockholm,
Porto and Assisi premiering works by Adam Gorb, Richard Rodney
Bennett, Edward Gregson, David Horne, Hugh Wood and recently
discovered works by Iain Hamilton and an early work by Sir
Arnold Bax. Master Classes have taken him to Europe, Japan,
China and Russia.
Nicholas Cox's recording of the
Mozart Clarinet Concerto and Quintet (ClassCD 1502) was released
in May 2003. In its first week it was CD of the week on Classic
FM and has been one of the most frequently broadcast versions of

musician to win both BBC Young Musician and BBC Young Composer
of the Year awards in 2006 and in 2011 all three orchestral

with cellist Hilary Browning between 1998 and 2003. Since 1997,
thanks largely to his pioneering efforts, the Rodewald Concert

The course is open to all standards and the
focus is on improving all aspects of bass clarinet playing from basic to
more advanced techniques throughout the
