The Khudyev Clarinet Master Class opens on Sunday July 1st, 2018 with dinner at 6:00 pm and closes with breakfast on Friday July 6th, 2018.

Teacher Biography

Prior to joining the Seattle Symphony, clarinetist Emil Khudyev has performed with orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and The Cleveland Orchestra. Khudyev was appointed as instructor of clarinet at the Interlochen Arts Academy in 2014. Prior to this position, he served as the acting Associate Principal, Second and E-flat Clarinet of the Kansas City Symphony. Born in Turkmenistan, Khudyev began his musical training under the auspices of the Moscow Conservatory, and, at age 7, was admitted to the Special Music School of Turkmenistan. Khudyev received his bachlor's degree in Clarinet Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music where he studied with Franklin Cohen and his master's degree at the Yale School of Music with David Shifrin. Khudyev also studied at the Colburn Conservatory fro his Artist Diploma under Yehuda Gilad. he has attended Tanglewood Music Festival, the Colorado College Music Festival and the Sarasota Music Festival.

All new participant applications should be supported by 2 letters of recommendation; in some cases audition tapes or CDs will be requested. All applications will be processed on receipt and after application fee is received. Applicants will be notified by mail. A non-refundable payment of $300.00 is due upon acceptance. Balance is due 10 days before the opening date of class.

Emil Khudyev in Performance

Each master class includes a concert, open to the public, featuring the master teacher performing a wide array of repertoire highlighting their instrument.  Emil Khudyev presents an evening of clarinet on Monday July 2, 2018 at 7:30 pm. Those who are not in the master class may purchase tickets to this performance HERE.

                ClarinetFest® 2018 will take place in the beautiful city of Ostend, Belgium, July 6-11 2018. Artistic Director Eddy Vanoosthuyse will be assisted by the family of the late Guido Six (Chantal, Bert and Gaby). The annual International Clarinet Association-conference is presented in partnership with the City of Ostend.

 

               There will be performances by the Brussels Philharmonic and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Both orchestras recorded the soundtrack of the movie The Artist. Also appearing are the Band of the Royal Guides, the Royal Navy Band, the Flemish Chamber Philharmony amongst others.

 

              There will be an extra concert by the Brussels Philharmonic with Academy Award winner Nicola Piovani (La Vita è Bella), conducting his film music and the world premiere of his clarinet concerto.

Next to hosting some of the biggest stars (see below), we will also give an opportunity to young (and very young) talent.

 

             Clarinet choirs from around the world are welcome to participate in the First International Guido Six Clarinet Choir Festival. One of the highlights will be one of Guido’s last arrangements for clarinet choir and organ, performed in the neogothic Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Ostend.

Mitwirkung bei zahlreichen CD-, Rundfunkund TV Produktionen. Der österreichische Komponist Ernst Ludwig Leitner komponierte im Sommer 2014 sein Klarinettenkonzert für Simon Reitmaier. Herbst 2014 Veröffentlichung der Solo CD „Im Atem der Zeit – Musik für Klarinette Solo“. U.a. Konzerte mit dem Programm beim österreichischen Kulturforum London, Malta/ Gozo Victoria Arts Festival, Kurhaus Bergün/CH, Celler Kulturwochenende.

Robert DiLutis, clarinetist

 

 

 

                   Robert DiLutis is currently Associate Professor of Clarinet at the University of Maryland, School of Music, College Park and in his 2nd season as Principal Clarinetist of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. Mr. DiLutis previously served as Associate Professor of Clarinet at the Louisiana State University School of Music from 2009-2012. He has also held positions with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony Orchestra and the Eastman School of Music. Mr. DiLutis has served on the faculties of St. Mary's University in Texas and Nazareth College in New York. His recent recitals and master classes have included the Austrian Clarinet Society 10th Annual Conference, University of Georgia, University of California at Northridge, University of South Carolina, Catholic University of America and the International Clarinet Conference in Assisi, Italy.

 

              Born in Baltimore, Maryland to a family of musicians, Mr. DiLutis studied first with his father John DiLutis Sr. then at the Peabody Conservatory with William Blayney and the Juilliard School with David Weber, principal clarinetist of the NYC Ballet. In 1989 he made his Carnegie Hall Recital debut as the winner of the Artist International Chamber Music Competition. As a soloist Mr. DiLutis has performed with ensembles such as the St. Lawrence String Quartet, San Antonio Symphony, LSU Wind Ensemble, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. Mr. DiLutis has performed and toured with the New York Philharmonic and is currently co-director of the Clarinet Academy of America, an intensive summer program for advanced clarinetists in high school and college. In addition to his performance career Mr. DiLutis is the inventor of the Reed Machine, a reed-making device used by top professionals around the world.

 

             In 2013 Mr. DiLutis created a new chamber music series at the historic Riversdale House Museum in Riverdale, MD and was awarded a 2014 & 2017 Individual Performing Artist Grant from the Maryland State Counsel for the Arts. Mr. DiLutis is an Artist for Buffet and his new DVD/CD Clarinet at Maryland, is available at CDBaby.com and GumRoad.com.

The International Clarinet Workshop (ICW) was founded by clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein who was raised in the Galilee and received his first musical training in the region. He later went on to study at the Juilliard school and won several International awards including first prize at the 2nd Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition in Denmark and the Avery Fisher Career Grant Award in New York. The ICW is a clarinet seminar for advanced clarinet students and enthusiasts from around the world. The maximum number of participants will be 15. The daily schedule includes warm up and fundamentals classes with Lisa Perry, Masterclasses with Alexander Fiterstein and Ron Selka (Principal Clarinet of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra), chamber music and orchestra excerpts classes.

  Principal clarinet of the Opera House Orchestra in Rome and winner of the recent competition for Principal clarinet of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, he is considered one of the most important international clarinettists. He started his career very early as principal clarinet in “Orchestra del Teatro V.Bellini” in Catania, playing there from 1993 to 1996. In 1997 he won the competition for principal clarinet at the Orchestra of “Opera di Roma”, and he also played as principal clarinet for the Philharmonic Orchestra of “Teatro alla Scala” in Milan and for the “Orchestra da Camera Italiana”. From 2008 to 2012 he was member of the Orchestra National de France. Winner of the International Prize “Jeunesses Musicales” in Bucarest and awarded with other various national prizes – as the “A. Ponchielli” prize in Cremona, the “G. Briccialdi” prize in Terni and the “Boario Musica” prize, he has performed a brilliant career not just in the most important Italian cities but also in many foreign countries: in Spain, Germany, Tunisia, Russia, Sweden, Austria, France, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Czech Republic, Holland, China, Taiwan, Japan and USA. He has recorded for “B.M.G. Ricordi”, “Riverberi Sonori”, “Fonè”, “Accord for Music” Roma, “Trio Zecchini”, Wicky Edition, Cristal Records. Several of his performances have been broadcasted by radios and televisions such: RAI, RAI SAT, Radio Vaticana, Romanian National Television, Radio France, Radio Tre, France Musique and RaiTrade. Authors such Luis Bacalov, Renato Chiesa, Claudio Cimpanelli, Antonio Fraioli and Nunzio Ortolano have dedicated their works to Calogero Palermo. His career as concert player is strictly connected with his didactic occupation in specialization courses and Master Classes in Italy and abroad. He is the author of the text planning “Soli Orchestra” for clarinet with piano accompaniment. He is regularly invited to take part in the juries of the most important national and international competitions for clarinet. Calogero Palermo plays a Buffet Crampon clarinet model RC Prestige.

česká klarinetistka, laureátka mezinárodní soutěže Pražské jaro 1991. V současné době profesorka Pražské konzervatoře, příležitostná moderátor­ka i herečka (pořad pro mládež Peri­skop na stanici Český rozhlas 2 Praha, seriál České televize Hop nebo trop, Terra musica, ExpoHlednice).

V mládí hrála na klavír, saxofon i klarinet, kterému se začala věnovat inten­zivněji. Vystudovala hru na tento nástroj na Pražské konzervatoři a HAMU. Absolvo­vala roční stáž na pařížské Conservatoire National Supérieur a různé kratší kurzy u klarinetistů zvučných jmen (K. Leister, M. Arrignon), od roku 2007 pořádá vlastní letní kurzy v západočeských Domažlicích.

Vystupovala v zemích celé Evropy, doma účinkovala na pres­tižních akcích jako koncert k zase­dání MMF a Světové banky v Praze (s Českou filharmonií a dirigentem V. Ashkenazym). Významné zahraniční koncerty absolvovala např. v roce 2005 v Japon­sku, kde strávila tři čtvrtě roku. Japonští posluchači mohli v jejím podání vyslechnout Mozartův klarinetový koncert v Tokyu a Aichi Art Centru v Nagoyi s Nagojskou filharmo­nií, nebo Kalivodovy Variace na Českém národním dnu na Expo 2005 se Symfonickým orchestrem hl. města Prahy FOK. V roce 2006 jste jí mohli slyšet při provedení Messiaeno­va Kvartetu na konec času, Mozartova koncertu A dur na basetový klarinet – ve výroční den skladatelova úmrtí – se Symfonickým orchestrem českého rozhlasu a dirigentem Vladimírem Válkem.

Od roku 2000 nahrává exkluzivně pro společnost Supraphon. Její CD s na­hrávkami Rossiniho, Mendelssohna a Brucha získalo prestižní cenu Harmonie za nejlepší nahrávku roku a v roce 2007 vyšel poslední, velmi úspěšný titul Playful Clarinet.

Od roku 2006 se věnuje také staré hudbě, kde se zaměřila na chalumeau, předchůdce klarinetu, a klasicistní dobové klarinety.

Spolupracuje s řadou umělců významných jmen – houslista Josef Suk, dirigent Jiří Bělohlávek, Vladimír Ashkenazy, Gerd Albrecht, mezzosopranistka Magdalena Kožená,Škampovo kvarteto, Tokio String Quartet, klavíristé Elisabeth Leonskaya, Gerhard Oppitz a dalšími.
