David Shifrin Master Class and Recital at Michigan State University - VIP Guy Yehuda, Host

Clarinet masterworks with Deborah Moriarty, piano; and clarinet quartet works with clarinetists Mingzhe Wang, Guy Yehuda, and Tasha Warren.

One of only two wind players to have been awarded the Avery Fisher Prize since the award’s inception in 1974, Shifrin is in constant demand as an orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber music collaborator. He has appeared with many orchestras in the U.S. and internationally, and has served as principal clarinetist with prestigious orchestras throughout the U.S. He served as artistic director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for 12 years.

Ball State Clarinet Festival - Dr Elizabeth Crawford, Director

                Ben Freimuth is currently the acting Associate Principal clarinet of the Cincinnati Symphony. Prior to that , he became the bass clarinetist with the San Francisco Symphony in 2003, and before that he held the pincipal clarinet chair with the Kansas City Symphony and performed there as soloist on two occasions. A native of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Ben studied at the Interlochen Arts Academy with Debbie Chodacki before attending the Cleveland Institute of Music. In Cleveland, he studied with Linnea Neriem and performed with the Cleveland Orchestra. He also attended the Tanglewood Music Center for three seasons.

               Mr. Freimuth received his graduate degree from Rice University, studying for two years with David Peck. There he also met his wife-to be, Elizabeth Freimuth, who was later named principal horn of the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and is now principal of the Cincinnati Symphony.
